World Cup babes

I’m not really a fan of soccer. I’ve watched a few games of the last World Cup but that’s about it. Just like other Filipinos, soccer is not really my cup of tea. However, you may want to watch this clip about the World Cup. You may not enjoy the game and you may not really pay attention to the score but I’m sure you’ll turn your head to watch these beauties cheer for their favorite team.

Is Manny Overweight?

This report has been causing great concern over Pinoy fans over Manny Pacquiao’s weight. The distinguished writer from this famous daily would seem to be out-of-character if he were to publish anything unverified and inaccurate. Is Manny still eating a lot despite the fact that fight time is just three weeks away? He better not put that extra serving of rice on his plate.

Klitschko Ibragimov doesn’t excite me

The heavyweight division has been battered with boring fights, bad decisions and subpar contenders. If this fight will be half as good as the Vazquez and Marquez fights, we can definitely say that heavyweight boxing is back. But until Wladimir Klitschko and Sultan Ibragimov fight like men who want to give fans their every penny’s worth, I’ll shy away from this weight class until a Tyson comes along. I’m sorry but I smell a stinker with this fight.

Kelly Pavlik and Jermain Taylor

What’s so cool about this match-up is that the first fight, which ended with both undefeated fighters getting knocked down, was very competitive till the end. The scenario is that an undefeated knockout artist getting it on with an athletic and fundamentally sound fighter that beat Bernard Hopkins twice. This is truly a fight worth watching. Who can say that the second won’t be just as exciting?

Top 10 P4P

As a boxing fan, I would like to post my 2 pesos’ worth as to who are the top ten pound for pound boxers in the world today. The pound for pound list is created when you try to visualize who will be on top when they are pitted against each other without regard for weight or division. A P4P list will never ever be validated because most likely the fighters will not face each other. It is also subject to much debate as evidenced by the many boxing forums and sites. So here is my unbiased, personal, pound for pound top ten:

Now or Never? Neither! Gorres gets draw

Z Gorres has lost an outright chance for a World title fight when he got only a draw against Australian Vic Darchinyan in Cebu. It was a forgettable fight. The referee ruled a slip by Gorres a knockdown which prompted the local crowd to get rowdy and throw plastic bottles in the ring. This sort of unnerved the rather inexperienced referee from New Zealand and make matters worse. Z got non-calls for pushing and head-butting by Darchinyan which caused a substantial amount of blood to spew out of his head. In fairness to the Australain, he dropped Z a couple of times which should have been ruled as legitimate knockdowns by the ref but instead were called mere slips. Not really a show of good officiating if you ask me.

To be fair, I think Darchinyan won the fight by a slim margin. Z lost steam and his bounce towards the end of the fight. Could this be because he weighed two pounds over the limit the day before the fight and that he had to shed off the extra poundage causing him to lose energy? Could it be that he over-trained by sparing more than a hundred rounds before the fight? Z wasn’t the same Z that knocked out former world champion Eric Ortiz some months ago. I guess Z would do well by taking extra measures to improve his stamina and endurance. I don’t question his boxing ability as he is one of the most gifted, if not the best, ring technicians in the country. He just needs to up his punching and staying power to legitimate his claim for a world championship belt. Let’s have a rematch sans the bad officiating and the bottles.
