New year wishlist for Manny

 I’m neither his promoter nor his manager. I’m just the typical Pinoy who he has made proud because of his accomplishments. However, the casual fight fan may have a thing or two to say for the National Fist or Pambansang Kamao. There are some things to be desired for his life and career. Manny, here’s my personal list for you this year.

• Be careful with the paparazzi  

    You’ve been caught in very suggestive photos and have been linked with beautiful women. You’re a national celebrity and and we hope you’re careful in going to bars and mingling with people who just want to get a piece of your fame and money.

• Leave politics, Focus on training

    I hope the last elections serves as a lesson for you that not anybody can join the dirty world of politics. I believe you have the sincerest desire to help your fellowmen in GenSan but leave it to the pros. You are a boxer and I hope you attain the legendary status of Ali, Robinson, Hagler, Hearns and Duran. Train hard for your next fight. Marquez has been training even before Christmas and you haven’t started yet. He’s no pushover and I hope you don’t treat him as such.

• Never sign contracts for different promoters again

    It’s a no-no to sign contracts for opposing companies and I hope the people around you never let you do it again for their own selfish motives. Your signature is worth millions and I hope any endorsements, promotions, appearances and the like requiring it get to be scrutinized by you and your closest allies.

• Cut down on the beer, vinegar and soy sauce (with Iron!)

    You’ve been hospitalized for stomach pains before. Be careful of what you eat or drink. I can imagine you go on parties everyday with people claiming to be your friends. Yeah, you don’t gulp Datu Puti (joke lng), but I hope you take care of your body. You might just be the fittest Filipino alive and I hope it stays that way before you retire.

• Stay humble

    You’re the most humble fighter on the planet and it’s why you became very famous. The world’s superstars trash-talk and bad mouth their opponents. Please never let your fame change you and continue striving for the glory that this country certainly deserves. Have a year full of knockouts!
